About the Museum
The Etpison Museum stands as a cultural beacon in Koror, Palau. Established in August 1999 on land generously donated by former President Ngiratkel Etpison, the museum building was skillfully designed and built by his children, Shallum and Mandy Etpison.
Spanning three stories and covering approximately 279 square metres, the museum showcases two floors dedicated to a wide range of Palauan and Micronesian artifacts, photography, and historical exhibitions. The uppermost level includes restrooms, additional displays, and a well‑stocked gift shop offering art, jewellery, books, and souvenirs.
Visitors can explore fascinating displays on foreign influence, rare types of traditional money, the celebrated first childbirth ceremony, canoes and fish traps, rare sea shells, and master‑carvers’ storyboards. The museum recently enhanced its experience by adding a “selfie bai” mural and an interactive bird mural, where guests can learn about Palau’s endemic birds through sounds, photographs, and information accessible via the iBird App.
The museum also extends its cultural reach through special projects. A notable project includes the Captain Wilson Gallery, opened at the Palau Pacific Resort in April 2017. This gallery features stunning photography by Mandy Etpison, alongside high‑end souvenirs, art, and photo prints.
