Gallery Gondwana Fiji 1

Introduction

Gallery Gondwana Fiji, located on Denarau Island, Fiji—just a short walk or taxi ride from the marina, local hotels, resorts, and approximately fifteen minutes from Nadi Town or the airport—offers visitors a unique gateway into the creative spirit of contemporary Fijian art. Nestled in the Denarau Industrial Estate and overlooking a golf course, the gallery welcomes art lovers eager to explore works that honour Fiji’s cultural heritage, while embracing its modern evolution.

About the Museum

Gallery Gondwana Fiji is an extension of the respected Gallery Gondwana, which began in Alice Springs, Australia, in 1990 and established an international reputation for showcasing contemporary Indigenous art with assured provenance. In 2018, inspired by Australia’s connection to the Pacific, the gallery expanded, opening a Pacific‑region branch in Denarau, near Nadi.

This gallery is led by celebrated Fijian multimedia artist Rusiate Lali, who co‑owns it alongside Roslyn Premont, the founder of Gallery Gondwana. Rusiate Lali’s art bridges ancestral heritage and contemporary themes—blending Christian symbolism, traditional tapa designs, and modern commentary on social issues and climate change. His work often features the geometric motifs of tapa cloth, combined with vivid narrative collages that resonate with both past and present.

The Denarau location immerses visitors in an eclectic display of Fijian artistic influences, including religious iconography and modern interpretations of culture, showcasing what defines Fiji today through the eyes of its creatives.
