Museokeskus Vapriikki

Introduction
The Museokeskus Vapriikki, or Vapriikki Museum Centre, stands proudly on the banks of the Tammerkoski rapids in Tampere, Finland. Nestled within the historic Tampella factory complex, this cultural landmark offers an engaging destination for visitors of all ages. With its striking red‑brick façade reflecting on the river waters, Vapriikki is both a visual icon and an immersive gateway to Finland’s industrial heritage, natural history, games, media, sports and more.

About the Museum
Housed in repurposed industrial buildings dating from the 1880s and early 1900s, Vapriikki began welcoming visitors in 1996 and became fully operational by 2000. It spans approximately 14 000 square metres of which half is dedicated to exhibitions and public spaces. Under one roof, Vapriikki unites multiple specialised museums: the Tampere Museum of Natural History, Rupriikki Media Museum, Finnish Museum of Games, Finnish Ice Hockey Museum and Hall of Fame, the Postal Museum, Doll and Dress Museum, and the Pirkanmaa Regional Museum. The centre also features a café‑restaurant called Valssi, a museum shop stocked with books, gifts and sweets, and facilities for guided tours, lectures, private events, and even spaces for seminars and conferences. True to its mission, Vapriikki offers over ten exhibitions simultaneously, covering a wide range of themes from history and technology to biodiversity and popular culture.
