About the Museum
Opened on July 6, 2022, the Museum of Illusions Gyumri is Armenia’s first dedicated museum of its kind. It was established by an academic and an engineer with support from the European Union’s Innovative Tourism and Technology Development for Armenia project, co‑funded by the German Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.
The museum offers around 50 exhibits inspired by physics, mathematics, and psychology. Visitors enter rooms that appear ordinary but reveal “magical” illusions—optical tricks, perceptual puzzles, and thought‑provoking installations. Each exhibit encourages guests to experiment, test their senses, and view the world in a new light.
These immersive exhibits include illusions such as a tilted room that plays with gravity, the Ames room that alters size and perspective, infinity halls, vortex tunnels, holograms, and 3D paintings. Visitors can engage fully by moving around and interacting with objects, even posing for memorable photographs in gravity‑defying scenarios. The museum also features guided tours led by knowledgeable local staff who explain the science behind each illusion in an engaging and clear manner.
The museum aims to be socially responsible and supports Gyumri’s local community. It employs local professionals, offers locally made souvenirs, and plans to periodically update and expand its exhibits to encourage repeat visits.
Admission is set at 4500 Armenian dram for adults, with discounts for students and school pupils (4000 dram), as well as special family and group packages. Entry is free for children under four. The museum is open every day: from Tuesday to Sunday between 11:00 a.m. and 8:00 p.m., and on Mondays from 11:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tickets may be purchased in person or online via the museum’s website.
